Empathy towards Gen Z?

I met a new worker from Gen Z on their first day.

I found it amusing that she didn’t know what Prosecco was. I often hear stories about Gen Z workers on social media.

Just recently, I saw a video where a small business owner talked about their new Gen Z employee who struggled to answer an old-fashioned phone. ☏
Even when it rang, he didn’t recognize the sound. 🎼
And when he finally picked it up (after some guidance), he forgot to take down customer information after agreeing to look into something.😄

Thinking back to the waitress, I felt empathic towards her. It seemed like she had much more to learn.
The older waiter teaching her was a bit frustrated because she didn’t know how to take an order, but I believed she’d improve with time.
She grew up in an environment where she missed out on certain things her parents didn’t teach her.

Adapting to this work setting might be tough for her.

There’s a chance she’ll face challenges, but I’m staying positive. As employers, we can give them opportunities to learn what they missed at home. 🏡
That’s why having an understanding leader matters.

Not to coddle them or do their work, but to offer support, understanding, and knowledge so they can grow.

We were all young once, and we’ve all had our moments of uncertainty.

Now, it’s our turn to lend a hand.
